My friend Jimmy was bragging about how cool MP3s were back in 1998. It wasn't until 1999 that I came across a Celtic music website that supported his claim. The problem was, the website LOOKED like it was full of crap. It was filled with advertising copy. Those sites always make me suspicious. Obviously, they're selling something, but what? Well, John Wilmott, the author of the site, wrote really well. So I decided to test his claim that MP3.com would revolutionize the music industry and change the way it worked. John's timing was off, but five years later, I found out he wasn't too off base. The music industry is changing BIG TIME! No longer are independent musicians like me being screwed over by labels. In fact, we can now COMPETE with them. I successfully did that with MP3.com. I took the music of my unknown indie band, the Brobdingnagian Bards and made them the #1 World music group online.
